THIS is Papua New Guinea!! One of my biggest bucketlist checks in the world and easily one of my new favorite countries! I can’t believe it took me this long to come here!!

I would have to admit that it probably took longer for me to come here because of the obvious — listening to people who say it’s “dangerous”, but also because I had trouble finding actual tour companies here or info on how to do it, especially as a solo female traveler.

Tourism is not too big here, and while that makes me sad for the locals (many of whom think people just don’t want to visit), it has made this adventure even more special by exploring a place with so much natural beauty and preserved history, without the touristy feel.

So let’s talk about the BEAUTY! Omg is this place gorgeous! Clear blue water with endless colorful reefs below lush tropical islands, an abundance of wildlife, and vibrant mountains. It feels like you’re in a photo!

The people here are some of the nicest and most welcoming that I’ve encountered in a while, and did you know there’s over a thousand indigenous tribes, each with their own customs and traditions? There’s also 850 languages spoken here!

You may have heard things about the tribes (either cannibalism or violence) and I’ll be explaining more about both in depth to help change the negative stereotypes about PNG.

I’ve learned a lot about it all through the NGO I’m here with, @pngtribalfoundation who does incredible work to not only help, but empower the people of this incredible country. They also offer safe, epic tours that include giving back to the communities here, more on this soon.

PNG is definitely a destination I’d advise people to come, but maybe not alone, so I’m also excited to say we will likely be adding it to our group trip destinations for 2024! Who wants to come??
