This day is believed to mark the end of the intermediate state between death and rebirth, known as the bardo. On the 49th day, the deceased's karma is said to be determined, and their next rebirth is chosen. It is a time to honor the deceased, to offer support and guidance, and to cultivate positive merit for oneself and others." ~Tengboche Monastery Karma Tshering Sherpa (1930- 2023) of Phortse was the oldest man in the village. In he climbed with Ed Hilary on the 1954 Makalu Expedition and his son Lakpha climbed Everest in 1983. His grandson @pemba_sharwa summited in 2012. He loved climbing and rejoiced each of the 18 years he took part of the @khumbuclimbingcenter Karma's dedication was reflected by donating half of the land for the building. During the process he would herd the yaks by the mason's kitchen for tea and pass along stories for all.
