Simply choose a week in May to commit to picking up rubbish while you exercise – whether that’s running, walking, paddling, swimming or climbing. Taronga Rubbish Run participants can also choose to fundraise or show their support by sponsoring participants with all proceeds going to Taronga’s Wildlife Hospitals in Sydney and Dubbo, which look after 1,500 injured, orphaned and sick animals every year. Taronga Wildlife Hospitals in Sydney and Dubbo are treating more and more animals that have been injured and impacted by rubbish – from marine turtles that have ingested plastic bags to platypus and other animals becoming entangled in discarded fishing hooks and line. All of these injuries are preventable and the small act of picking up litter can have a big impact on wildlife.
