Photos by @martinedstrom | Atlantic puffins have been a part of Faroe Islands culture for as long as anyone can remember. The birds can be found all over the islands—located between Iceland and Norway—in both a physical and a spiritual sense. They breed mainly on the island of Mykines, and make their homes on sharp, tall cliffs above the crashing waves of the North Atlantic. Once the puffins' breeding season is over, usually toward the end of July, it is legal to catch them for food—a Faroese tradition for over 300 years.
