This 15-year-old knows that sometimes you have to look back to move forward.

“It’s in our history to run as a form of prayer, for ourselves and for each other, and to feel connected to our land,” says @_sierra_rain, of the Navajo Nation, one of the youngest members of the @nativewomenrunninggroup in Page, Arizona. This crew, comprised of several tribes and generations, says they run to honor women who can’t, to remind each other of the resilience of their ancestors, and to celebrate the unique power of coming together as Native American women.

These bonds are what Sierra says she wants to pass on. “I love my culture. It’s part of me, it’s part of my elders, and it’s part of my future kids. I want them to have what I have right now.”
