MGMTさんのインスタグラム写真 - (MGMTInstagram)「Hello one and all, Wow, we’ve been quite busy (for us) this past year, writing and recording a new album of all-original songs (not covers) and creating the @justlikeheavenfest “Oracular Spectacular” show. And now, dear me, both are completed! We want to say a few things about the JLH performance, as we are still riding on the wave of emotions and nostalgic love that came crashing ashore this past Saturday in Pasadena. Booked to play our first album in its entirety, 15 years after its creation and 20+ years since the birth of MGMT, we took the opportunity to celebrate the defining spirit of the band, in all its scrappy, wide-eyed experimental glory, on a grand scale. By utilizing the original O.S. demos from 2006, and sampling songs by artists that initially inspired the music, we meticulously recreated every track from the album. The resulting music was a familiar but new interpretation of the album that started it all for us. Then we went wild with the production design, collaborating with writers and visual artists, old college classmates, and musician friends with the hope of creating a truly unique live show. We attempted to stay true to our intention of designing an experience that would amplify the sound of light and love and leave people pleasantly confounded. Back in the early 2000s when we were known as “The Management”, we reveled in using the live stage as a place for playful experimentation… playing hockey in the middle of songs, singing from inside a tent on stage, slicing open a durian fruit with a machete while playing Bob Dylan from an iPod, or simply leaving the stage with music playing and never returning. This time we thought, “Why not do the same thing but on a huge stage in front of thousands of people?” The whole experience was truly inspiring and invigorating for us and really couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of all the crew, friends, artists, and all the fans of MGMT.
