@shirley.films —Ol Doinyo Lengai, also known as Oldoinyo Lengai or the “Mountain of God” in the Maasai language, is situated in the Arusha Region of Tanzania, Africa, within the Gregory Rift. It is an active volcano and forms part of the volcanic system of the East African Rift. What sets Ol Doinyo Lengai apart is its ability to produce natrocarbonatite lava, a rare type of volcanic carbonatite. This phenomenon was confirmed through geological investigations following the eruption of the volcano in 1960. Notably, there are a few other older carbonatite volcanoes in the vicinity, such as Homa Mountain, although they are now extinct. 🌋
