When Sheena Yap Chan thinks of her parents Dickson and Didie, the first word that comes to mind is “brave.” Her conservative Chinese parents embraced her oldest sister, Phoebe, after she came out to them. “Coming out as a gay Asian person is not always easy. When you come out to your parents, you get one or the other — it’s either they’ll accept you or they’ll disown you,” says Chan whose parents always encouraged their children to show up as their true self. “To anyone out there who feels like they’re still hiding, I hope this story can give you hope.”

Chan is the founder and host of the award-winning podcast called “The Tao of Self-Confidence.” She has a book out of the same name that teaches Asian women how to move beyond trauma and tap into their joy so that they can shine as leaders in today’s world. More at our link in bio.
