Eastern Bongos are the largest African rainforest antelope, with distinctive colouration and coat patterns that provide camouflage in their rainforest habitat. They face immense threats due to hunting and illegal logging of their habitat 🍃 We are so privileged to be home to 17-year-old male Bongo, Ekundu, who has sired four calves as part of an international breeding program. With so few Bongos left in the wild, every calf counts towards saving this species. Make sure to head down to our Rainforest Trail to spot Ekundu at Taronga Zoo Sydney or head out to Taronga Western Plains Zoo to see the herd and witness the breeding program for yourself.
