I paid $650 a month for a one bedroom the size of a shoebox. I had just arrived from New York, where I had only done theater, and I was striking out in the new arenas of television and film in and about the year 2000. That year I did TV minor guest actor roles on Charmed and CSI. I was also teaching acting to foreign students at a hole in the wall school on Hollywood Boulevard that my friend ran. I was in a constant battle to pay my bills, and I was in a constant internal battle… wondering if I would ever really make it in showbiz. Or if I should move back to my hometown of Seattle with @holidayreinhorn and give up on the whole enterprise. Sell salmon or something. And now? My giant head on the side of a Hollywood self storage facility. Visible to the Rush of cars streaming down the 101 towards downtown. Practically visible from the window of my first apartment in Hollywood all those years ago. I guess I “made it.” Weird. So grateful to be a part of this amazing show. A show that actually makes the world a better place. Finding happiness in different cultures and bringing those findings home for you the viewer.
