Headed by LA-based contemporary artist Mr Josué Thomas, @gallerydepartment was initially founded to repurpose vintage garments, before turning into a fully-fledged fashion and lifestyle brand. The DIY spirit that characterises all its collections is intrinsic to the brand’s history – “I’ve pretty much been doing it all of my life,” Thomas once told us. “Both my parents are artists, so it was sort of an innate hobby, drawing and sketching.”

Few things reflect the artist’s approach to design better than this season’s line-up – take these hand-splattered shorts with raw hems and this mechanic shop-inspired appliquéd shirt as proof.
