At that point, Kawaguchi only has around 20 seconds to take his shot before they run out of air.⁠ ⁠ As you can imagine, this is no mean feat. “The whole process [of each photo] takes two weeks,” Kawaguchi says. “I do location hunting first. That is where I decide on camera angles. Then I measure everything on the screen. I then make a drawing from that and create a bag that will cover everything.”⁠ ⁠ It’s a viscerally claustrophobic sight.
