Cool guy alert: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, founding member of the German Expressionist group “Die Brücke,” or “The Bridge," created the group in 1905 to find a new artistic expression that would form ~a bridge~ between the past and the present. Here's the thing—they were all untrained in visual art 😮
The group met initially in Kirchner's studio, which had previously been a butcher's shop. His friend Fritz Bleyl described it as "that of a real bohemian, full of paintings lying all over the place, drawings, books and artist's materials—much more like an artist's romantic lodgings than the home of a well-organised architecture student".
"Two Women," by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner is currently on view in our Modern Art Galleries on BCAM Level 3.
