Even though this was just a local lake, you can see and feel the difference of everything out here. The magnitude of the landscape, the power of of the elements and the potential insignificance of yourself once you’re emerged deep within them. As the conditions snapped like the click of a finger yesterday, I began to realise that a small part of this race will actually be the 18 hours a day of monotonous and relentless paddling and a large part will be combatting the cold, the wet, the lack of sleep and the efficiency of your start of day and end of day preparations. That along with the magnificent beast that this beautiful but dangerous territory occupies. That being said it was great to get out onto the water and have a small but valuable taster of what this 1,000 miles will hold for us.
