In 2003, VF’s “It’s Totally Raining Teens!” issue hit newsstands, creating a time capsule of youth culture and igniting such a response that reporters still ask the cover stars about that iconic picture.

Photographed by @MarkSeliger, the portfolio assembled more than two dozen up-and-coming stars—including Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Raven-Symoné, Daniel Radcliffe, Solange Knowles, Evan Rachel Wood, Bow Wow, Hilary Duff, and more. The accompanying interview addressed pressing issues of the day, such as “Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?” and “Just how many Juicy Couture outfits do you own?,” while giving fans a rare look at Disney and Nickelodeon teen domination.

Though some of the stars have revealed complicated feelings about the shoot day over the years (Duff described it as “high-anxiety” and Wood said she was “almost in tears”), the significance of the moment is undeniable. Talking to Vogue last year, Lohan said, “If you think about getting all of these actresses in a room today…” Then she laughed just imagining it. “It was amazing,” says Raven-Symone.
