Dream so big that everyone thinks you’re crazy…then proceed to outlast them all. 26 years ago today @arejayhale and I had our first show. It was just the two of us entering ourselves on the bill of a talent show at the Schuylkill County Fair In Pennsylvania. Thanks to lil bro’s enthusiasm and persistence, we decided to name the band HALESTORM ( he wouldn’t let it go thank the rock gods) and we performed an original song called “Love Is Power” in front of an audience of strangers. I was so nervous. We finished our song, and we’re shaking with adrenaline. To our surprise we walked away with the third place trophy ( it is currently sitting next to our Grammy, equally if not more important of a milestone), losing 1st and second to a tap dancing cowgirl and a 9 year old singing little orphan Annie…the whole thing still feels so spinal tap to me! Ha! But that night @arejayhale and I decided to go for it. We were going to see how far we could take this band. We had No back up plan, no hook ups in the biz, no rich family members, and no experience. We would play anywhere they’d let us play, for whoever would listen. We’d get paid in free pizza, dinners or just an opportunity to perform again. 26 years later, I look back on the trail of chaos that now looks like a Van Gogh painting. It’s hard to believe that two kids from rural Pennsylvania, fueled by passion, obsession and insanity stuck it out hard enough to call ourselves legitimate rockstars. Rockstars with the power to inspire, influence and spread joy across the globe! We are living proof that nothing is impossible. And it doesn’t matter if you know what you’re doing or not. Just have the balls to show up and do hard things. That’s it. Even though it took a few years to find our other halves @thejoestorm and @jodowa … this is the summer we are also celebrating 20 years as a four piece! 20 years of @arejayhale and I slugging it out with the best bandmates these Hale kids could’ve wished for!
