In a new documentary, Un pezzo di papà, Patrick @pzachmann travels to Naples, Italy, to meet the family of his friend, Andrea Mormile, a police officer assassinated by the Neapolitan Mafia 41 years ago today, September 3. ⁠

Four decades ago, a 27-year-old Zachmann began work on an in-depth photo essay about the Naples police and mafia, known as the Camorra. He befriends Mormile, a young policeman from the Homicide Unit who helps him navigate Naples’ complex maze of side streets and suburbs, taking him on police patrols and to crime scenes and welcoming him into his home. ⁠

Un pezzo di papà is a documentary with many layers: it is a tribute to the young Mormile and his family, a recounting of Zachmann’s stories of Naples in the 80s, and a careful reflection on photography and what it means to be a photographer, today.⁠
