She was hospitalized for shingles at the beginning of March. Feinstein was a politician of many firsts: the first woman to serve as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; the first woman to be elected mayor of San Francisco; the first woman from California to be elected to the Senate; and the longest-serving senator from California.
