Dental surgery update: ❤️‍🩹 We were unable to remove Nala’s bothersome tooth yesterday. She had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. Thankfully, her veterinarian noticed and responded quickly by reversing the anesthesia and waking Nala up. They started IV fluids to help flush the medications out of her system.

From there, we transferred Nala to an emergency hospital for further tests and monitoring. Upon arrival, her temperature was low, so they used a heating lamp to warm her up. We conducted another blood test, and everything came back normal. The emergency vet explained that no signs of shock were evident from the blood results. Nala’s blood pressure was also normal. Nala has had four previous dentals, and we have never experienced this before— we were in complete shock. It’s still unclear what happened.

The good news is that Nala’s blood looks great. Her kitty cold has improved significantly. Her temperature is back to normal. Nala has a very healthy appetite, she’s well-hydrated, and her litter box behavior is normal. She’s a bit sleepy today, and we’re keeping a very close eye on her. If we notice any changes, we’ll make sure to rush back to the emergency hospital. She’s currently snoozing in her hamburger box on the couch with me.

The next steps to address Nala’s tooth are pending. It will likely need to fall out naturally, but this can be painful, so we will develop a treatment plan with her vet to manage any potential infection or pain.
