The Egg™ chair is a masterpiece of Danish design from 1958. It emerged from a collaboration between Fritz Hansen and Arne Jacobsen, using a radically new material, polyurethane foam, introduced to Jacobsen by Fritz Hansen. With new freedom unrestrained by traditional chair building materials, Jacobsen found the perfect shape for the chair by experimenting with wire and plaster in his garage.
To this day, skilled craftspeople at Fritz Hansen manufacture the chair using the same combination of industrial production together with fabric stretching and stitching by hand.
