Photos by @christiehemmklok | While documenting the restoration of the Yerkes Observatory near Wisconsin's Lake Geneva for National Geographic, I met Frank Mills. During my time in the plate vault, Frank, a retired teacher and observatory volunteer, showed me plate after plate of remarkable images of space. The vault houses an estimated 170,000 glass plates taken with the telescopes at Yerkes and observatories around the world.
