Baby Sanad was skeletal, screaming from hunger and getting sicker by the day in Yemen.

In desperation, his mother Raneem raced him to a UNICEF- and WHO-supported hospital where he was given therapeutic milk and medicine to jump-start his recovery.

At home, he ate ready-to-use therapeutic food, a paste packed full of calories, nutrients and vitamins, which helped him gain weight.

Thanks to the medical care Sanad has been receiving, he’s now significantly healthier. “I can’t believe he’s recovered so well,” says Raneem.

Sanad’s story is one that’s familiar to millions of children and their families globally. But with the right support, change is possible.

Ahead of a major Food Security Summit on 20 November, UNICEF is calling on leaders to urgently invest in the prevention, detection and treatment of severe malnutrition.
