Meet Don – a husband and father of two teenage boys in Portland, Oregon.

Don is also a heavy metal fan, and he likes the volume loud on his music. In recent years, he experienced hearing loss but didn’t realize how bad it had gotten until a little over a year ago, when he began having trouble with his hearing on a daily basis – struggling to hear his wife, his family, the television.

Around the time Don began to look into hearing aids, the Biden-Harris Administration accelerated making hearing aids available over-the-counter as part of President Biden’s Competition Agenda. Don went and got a pair for the first time. His insurance didn’t cover the cost, but over-the-counter hearing aids were half the cost of prescription ones – up to thousands of dollars cheaper – so he purchased a pair.

Since then, things have improved for Don immensely. He can now fully engage in conversations with his family and friends around the dinner table without having to ask people to repeat themselves. He no longer has to turn the TV volume up to levels his children find annoying.

And, Don has inspired his mom and multiple other friends to get over-the-counter hearing aids as well, helping to improve their quality of life. As many as 30 million more Americans across the country can benefit from this Administration’s work to make hearing aids more affordable. We’re not going to give up on our work to lower costs for families.
