The Magnum Gallery booth at @parisphotofair, where classic meets contemporary and black-and-white meets vivid color ✨
For the 26th edition of #ParisPhoto, the Magnum Gallery curation journeys through the works of generations of Magnum photographers, including a series of photographs by @herbert_list. While classically educated, List was influenced by the surrealist and Bauhaus movements of the 1920s and 30s, culminating in a wide-reaching body of still life and portrait work.
List coined the term Fotografia Metafisica to describe the essence of his photography, where the supernatural blends with the familiar world to create a distinct style. In these images, we see his influences intertwine as classical sculptures become foreboding monoliths with form and perspective distorted through his lens.
