What do you see here?

This is "Vanish," painted by Pierre Alechinsky. The painting features a figure in the center that seems to appear and disappear into the background of the painting.

Inspired by Japanese calligraphy, which he observed during his travels to Japan in 1955, the shape and the background combine to appear as one surface distinguished by the thickly applied white paste and predominantly blue lines.
