レオナルド・ディカプリオさんのインスタグラム写真 - (レオナルド・ディカプリオInstagram)「Today, two new Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Lovongai and Murat have officially tripled the protected waters of Papua New Guinea - spanning over 6,000 square miles. Protecting these ecosystems is vital to mitigating the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss. Coastal seas contain 70% of all ocean biodiversity and all of the world’s mangroves and seagrass beds. This project is the culmination of nearly 7 years of work by @thewcs Papua New Guinea team, who led consultations with upwards of 9,000 community members and countless delegates from the local and national government level as well as local NGOs for the creation of these MPAs. @rewild was proud to support these efforts and is thrilled to celebrate this milestone, ensuring Indigenous peoples lead the protection of their coastal seas.
