Thousands of demonstrators from across the country gathered in Washington D.C. on Tuesday to support Israel amid the war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The "March for Israel" — a rally on the National Mall rather than a march — was organized by the Jewish Federations of North America to "show solidarity and support for Israel and the Israeli People," according to a permit filed with the National Park Service.

A bipartisan slate of lawmakers who addressed the crowd also called for the release of hostages.
