The sketches travelled from the studio to the artisans working for the Maison, gradually accumulating notes and observations from both their author and recipients. He often bought multiple copies of the same art books, cutting out his inspirations and sticking them to his drawings, revealing the panoply of references and sharp wit behind his creations.
