We're on the way back to the airport now but yesterday afternoon we did a Sound of Music tour and it was amazing! 💕🎶 Despite the film coming out in 1965, apparently the Sound of Music still attracts 300,000 tourists a year to Salzburg, which is just mind-blowing. I've not seen the film for a while, but when I was at first school, baby Ashley would take the video in every single day hoping my teacher would let us watch it. I remember the VHS had a big plaster on with my name etched on. After a while my teacher gave in and let us watch it and asked me not to bring it back again. So I started bringing the tape cassette in instead. I was absolutely obsessed. I remember my mum telling me you could go to the real place and I couldn't believe it and I hoped that one day I could do it! We saw the pavilion where they sang "16 going on 17", the church where they got married, the lake where they fell in on the boat, the path where Maria sings down, the two houses they filmed the Von Trapp home. And we learned so much about the real vom Trapp family. Our guide was so funny and amazing, and we saw so much of the Salzburg lake district which is somewhere I'd definitely want to come back in the summer. It's such a beautiful place! And the best thing is - the littles were amazing even on a 4 hour tour! We brought lots of snacks and the iPad and there were lots of stops along the way! What a beautiful place to come to for Nana's special birthday. And now it's back to reality to the work rush before we get to enjoy Christmas.
