#DearDirectorsDiary, people keep asking me, "Now that you're on the other side of the camera, do you you have a different perspective on #actors and #acting? Someone even asked whether I now see them as "overly pampered little divas." I'm pretty sure that was a joke, but what I do see, now more than ever, is how important the role of a good, professional actor really is. When a director is racing the clock, chasing daylight, being bombarded with questions from every department, and fighting for his or her vision, nothing is more refreshing than seeing an actor walk onto set prepared, committed, ready make choice and willing to PLAY. It is a reminder that if you're lucky enough to be working in this profession, do your homework, be ready with choices based on the story, and be collaborative and facile enough to adapt those choices, if necessary. It not only makes the production make its day, but more importantly, it enhances an entire show. Being a first time director has taught me to appreciate acting in a whole new way.
