열일곱 살 에스더는 콩고민주공화국에서 부모님과 언니가 총살당하는 것을 목격한 후 우간다로 피신했습니다. 작은 어선에 몸을 맡긴 채 가까스로 우간다에 도착한 에스더에게 콩고는 당분간 돌아갈 수 없는 고향이 되었습니다.
지난 12월부터 급격히 악화된 내전과 폭력사태로 올해 들어서만 37,000명이 넘는 콩고인이 집을 잃었습니다. 630,500명이 넘는 난민과 450만 명이 넘는 국내실향민이 발생한 콩고민주공화국은 오늘날 가장 복잡하고도 장기화된 난민사태입니다. 동시에, 우리가 좀처럼 관심을 갖지 않는 잊힌 사태이기도 합니다. 이들을 돕기 위한 기금 중 단 1퍼센트만이 현재 모금되었습니다.

Casemire Esther, 17, fled recent fighting in Ituri province, DRC after armed men killed her parents and sister. She is among over 37,000 Congolese refugees who fled to Uganda since the beginning of 2018, using crowded fishing boats and canoes to cross Lake Albert.
With some 630,500 Congolese refugees in the region and 4.5 million IDPs, the situation in the DRC is one of the world’s most complex, challenging, protracted and forgotten crises. So far, only 1 percent of the necessary funds have been funded for the Congolese situation.
