When Stanley & Asmeret, co-founders of @AfricanChopHouse / ACH offered to throw one of their events in support of @projecttsehigh / PjT it was a no-brainer: YES!! If you’re not familiar with ACH, it’s a brilliant event that builds community sharing African food, music, and culture. We decided on a rooftop hang in Harlem where we would be able to introduce and launch our fundraising efforts towards PjT’s upcoming solar project in Tanzania: to equip a primary school with sustainable electricity!! Everyone ate food and danced to music from across the continent. They drank beverages from @MartellUSA @Teranga and understood how tangible our goal is; for only $100, you gift a student solar energy for 10+ years. What was even more incredible was that old and new supporters felt like family, and within there lies the power of building community. The more united we are, the more we embrace instead of compare culture, the more opportunity we can create, and the more we can build for ourselves and each other. We are working to remove ourselves from the stereotypes of the underserved and/or misrepresented. Yes, that means even if you don’t fall into those categories you can still be an ally, a part of our unity and make positive change. With strong community, individual ideas are valued, partnerships are conceived, commitment is recognized, and trust is shared. I feel the movement strengthening and we’re just getting started.
