The day Gracie died, we arrived home to a suddenly empty house and didn't know what to do with ourselves. I retreated to the bath. Matt went for a walk. A long walk. And he returned carrying a hanging basket of flowers.
Every day since then, he's tended to those flowers with the most exquisite care—watering them, speaking to them softly, plucking curled petals to encourage new growth and honouring the dog we loved so much in an entirely unexpected way.
Today I overheard him explaining this ritual to Peggy.
Petals fell away from my heart.

lotusfly men have such a beautiful way of processing and dealing with sadness. i wish their feelings were more cultivated in our society so we could see this more often instead of labeling them as ‘manly’ which can denote unfeeling at times. love this pic!
