As Sydney stood there watching me coat this canvas with white paint for the third time she said, “Mom! Are you seriously painting over that again?” And I just nodded. And then she said, “But Dad and I REALLY liked the first painting you did!” And I nodded again. And then she said, “Well, I liked the last one too but I really liked the first one best. I wish you didn’t keep painting over it.” And then without even thinking I replied, “I’m not doing this for you guys, I’m doing it for me, so I’m going to keep going until I have something I like.” Clarity. Selfishness. Whatever it’s called, it had a positive feeling that came along for the ride❤️
