In fact, a report released in the Science Journal last year suggests that avoiding meat and dairy products is the 'single biggest way' to reduce your environmental impact on the planet. Did you know?! Adopting a plant-based diet can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 73% and if every family in the UK ditched meat for just one meal a week, that would have the same environmental impact as taking 16 million cars off the road. Although many people around the world are making the decision to cut down on animal products , what is really needed is innovation that will make it easier and cheaper to make the switch. Ultimately adopting a plant-based diet has to be seen as a benefit rather than a sacrifice! There are lots of companies around the world innovating in the plant-based space with great success. From meat replacement companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, to plant-based milks like Oatly. There are even companies experimenting with growing cultured meat in labs. Whilst activism has a hugely important role to play, ultimately it's these innovations that are going to radically shift the way we eat. A couple of years ago I met Alex and JP, the brothers behind @allplants. The idea of the company is simple. Plant-based food that’s easy to prepare, doesn’t cost the earth and is good for your health. When they opened their A-round of investment, I did something I’ve never done before and invested my savings into the business. I did this because I believe in their mission, and in a strange way, supporting them felt like a form of activism. Earlier this year @allplants launched a campaign offering their customers a chance to be investors. In just a few weeks they have raised over £3 million and counting. They are currently building the largest plant-based kitchen in the UK and have big plans for the year ahead.
