He was one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met. ⠀ The story that sticks out to me the most is when he helped me with photography. I had just retired from competing, but I still went to the rink every so often to skate for fun. One day, I brought my new camera to try and take pictures of Gracie skating. I didn’t really know what I was doing, but Denis took time out of his training day to talk about photography with me! ⠀ Not only that, but he invited Gracie and me to take photos with him that night! Watching Denis behind the camera was an art form in itself. He transformed ordinary places into extraordinary photographs. I remember how warm and happy I felt looking at the finished pictures when he sent them, and still do today when I look back at them. ⠀ Denis inspired me on the ice when I was still skating, and later inspired me to pursue my passion for photography.
