In honor of a new generation of heroes, we invited New York City frontline workers to share their experiences. “Heroes are people who feel compelled to do something when there seems to be no one else who can or will do it,” said Rocky Walker, Chaplin for @MountSinaiNYC, about his frontline worker colleagues. Like many of those we interviewed, Walker said that he doesn’t consider himself a hero, because he was just doing his job. “I went from treating people with sports injuries and improving quality of life, to taking care of those who are critically ill and trying to save a life. That required a complete shift in mindset,” adds Dr. Joseph Herrera, Chairman of the Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at @MountSinaiNYC. Similar to Dr. Joseph Herrera, Senior Physician Assistant, Kristen Thoelen courageously volunteered to work on an inpatient medicine floor that was specifically treating COVID-19 positive patients.
