I visited Otani Workshop’s studio @ota539 . He had frantically been producing works for the past year toward his upcoming solo show at Perrotin @galerieperrotin NY, and I arrived at the empty studio after all the works have been shipped out. Well done! His studio was absolutely wonderful; it exuded his personality. It’s the kind of space he must have dreamed of as a university student, in which to freely create whatever he wished as an artist. I said to him he must be having fun every day, and he responded simply: “Sometimes, when I feel lost, I’m unable to move. Those are tough times.” Even his comment reflected his endearing personality! I used his bathroom and there I found wild flowers arranged in Yuji Ueda’s @yuji____ueda vase, which was touching.

大谷工作室さん @ota539 の工房に行ってきた。今度ペロタンNY @galerieperrotin で個展やる為に、約1年、シャカリキに作品作り続けて来て、納品が終わったカランと何もないところに来ました。お疲れ様ぁ〜、と言う感じ。大谷さんの、人柄が滲み出た、本当に素晴らしいスタジオだった。大学生の頃、アーティストになって自由に作品、作れるスタジオ欲しいなぁ、とイメージするそのまんまの素敵な空間。毎日楽しいんじゃない？と聞くと「何やっていいか分からなくなるとジーィっとしてしまって。そゆ時は辛いですね」と。朴訥な返答にもお人柄が！トイレを借りたら、そこに上田勇児 @yuji____ueda さんの花池に野草が生けられて居て、ジーンときました。
