Zulene Mayfield stands in front of her old house in Chester, PA., where present and past residents like her live right behind the Covanta incinerator, which burns around 200 tons of garbage and recycling in one day. “We have fought off many other polluting entities and have had some major and minor victories. A testament of our will to survive and to save the children of our community is that we will continue this struggle,” Mayfield says. “The children and residents of this community deserve nothing less than our determined will to survive.” ⠀
