Males of the species have a dazzling array of plumage that includes a golden-yellow crest, a bright red belly, along with patches of green and blue throughout its body. It inhabits the mountainous forests of western China, where it tends to stay grounded—the bird isn’t a great flyer and is only capable of short trips through the air.
