He’ll cry, he’ll be restless and he’ll get bored in his rear facing seat. But here we are, on our 6th road trip cruising along, with him totally loving the ride. Our first road trip with Oliver was when he was just 8 weeks old which was the longest one at 10 hours in the car 😩 (supposed to be 6 hours). It was hard for us all and we vowed to never travel with him after that, but it was that first trip that we learned a lot of what NOT to do, and what TO do the right way. Road trip adventures is at the heart of our family and something that we all really enjoy, so we worked out what works for Oliver. I’d heard so many stories of parents who suddenly stopped travelling because of their little ones and how it all became way too hard — I hear you! But after a lot of trial and error it’s become a breeze. Not sure if this helps any other parents, but something that I ALWAYS do on road trips is I actually sit in the back seat with him, and tilt his car seat back so it’s reclined (a tip that the car seat expert gave me which works a treat). That way I can still feed him easily, play with him, monitor him for any uncomfortable cues and help him to sleep. Also being prepared is key, having a bag stocked with snacks, toys, milk and water, nappies/ diapers on hand and a mirror fitted to the back seat so he can still watch the world pass by has also helped a lot. Realistically, I think if I wasn’t sitting in the back seat with him, then our road trips would be a little more challenging — but I love sitting next to him while we travel and he loves it too. So here’s to plenty more on the road together.」2月5日 5時45分 - biancamaycheah
