My thoughts of #CIA were heavily influenced by the movies and I thought, “I’m no James Bond. You’re not going to see me tackling the bad guy or disarming the bomb right before it explodes.” . My background was in computer networking and information technology – it’s what I went to school for. All I knew when I graduated was that I wanted to work with computers. Beyond that, I wasn’t really sure. . She is the one who convinced me to submit an application, and I’m so glad she did. And I think she is too. In fact, when I first started (and still to this day), she reaches out to me any time she has a technical question. Before long, I had a whole list of people reaching out to me. Apparently she had been giving her coworkers my name any time they needed technical support! . From day one at the Agency, I was kind of in awe. Getting to see the inner-workings of an organization like CIA, and how we support those people on the ground, is so interesting and so rewarding. You never see this part in the movies: the many, many people who are working behind the scenes to make those field operators successful. . So many STEM people think they need to go to one of the big tech giants or out west to work on fun and interesting tech projects. I tell people all the time: we’re doing the same caliber of work here.
