Pocket watches were losing the battle of popularity against wristwatches. Going against the tide, the first Royal Oak pocket watch, Model 5691, was launched in 1979. While subtly adopting the contemporary finishes of the Royal Oak, it fits in the long tradition of Audemars Piguet pocket watches, rooted in the 19th century.
