In this film @ClaudartUK talks about her personal experience of being a Black woman and an artist, and how her experiences have shaped her work. Johnson's subjects are people she knows well, often drawn from life; a process which allows her to project the presence of the person into each picture. Each large-scale portrait boasts a rich colour palette and delicate details. She has described her works as ‘monoliths, larger than life versions of women’ which demand attention and respect.
