The cottage at the left, which almost disappears behind ivy, is the ‘Ivy Cottage’ in the painting's title, where the Pissarros lived from November 1915 to July the following year. The colours of the snow are especially striking, in shades of blue and pink and pinkish grey. In the distance, a figure wears a long coat and a tight-fitting hat as he walks up the hill, suitably dressed for the cold snap.
