Might include recipes. For years I was extremely insecure about my writing and unintentionally, I constrained myself to be able to carve myself a space in the Instagram picture perfect world. But a lot has changed since then, social media has become a mostly revolting space with dance routines and toxic comments at best, and relentless advertisement and disgusting, neverending spam at worst. Writing Pomegranates & Artichokes permitted me to expand my writing ambitions and aspirations and outgrow my fear of writing. I'm now nearly forty (about to turn 38). A fat, single woman of color, an Iranian immigrant, living in Italy, and I want to tell it all. I want to write about what’s real, which goes beyond food, with honesty, dignity and hopefully, some leggerezza (lightness/fun). Noon, a more vibrant, diverse and candid sister to my old food blog, Lab Noon, Is (hopefully) a safe space to share all this with a community of people with the same interests. In order to celebrate Nowruz, and the publication of my first cookbook, Pomegranates & Artichokes, all posts will be available FOR FREE from March 20th until the end of May, which is the publication month. After then, weekly posts containing essays, guides and fortnightly recipes, as well as access to community chats, comments, early bird announcements for events and workshops and behind the scenes experience with me will be posted to paid subscribers only. The age of Instagram/TikTok has had us believe that we’re entitled to good “content” from creatives for free. But it takes time to write, to create art, to develop recipes. What we do is not “content creating”. It’s doing our jobs, it’s how we support ourselves. By contributing less than the price of a coffee per week, not only will you support diverse and independent voices continue to put out their work, you’ll also divulge the culture of paying creative professionals.
