Watch maker @Boldrsupplyco clued in on the remarkable super-black plumage of the Vogelkop Superb Bird-of-Paradise. It is a unique example in nature of feathers that are so black that they reflect only 0.6% of the light that hits them. They found a paint that had almost exactly the same properties to create the dramatic face of this unique timepiece, that also features the glowing blue eyespots and hands. The Vogelkop Superb was one of the most exciting discoveries during my many years of pursuing birds-of-paradise in the remote rainforest of the island of New Guinea. In the Arfak Mountains of Indonesian West Papua was where in 2016, I filmed and photographed this bird performing its courtship display, revealing the unique shape of its cape and other features that helped establish that this was a distinct species of bird-of-paradise. It's not every day that I can photograph what is essentially a new species of bird-of-paradise, so I think it's very fitting that this discovery has been commemorated with a classy watch from @BoldrSupplyCo.
