Earlier this month, The New York Times discovered the identity of Jack Teixeira, the Air National Guard member charged with leaking a trove of classified Pentagon documents related to the war in Ukraine, around the same time the FBI found him.

The FBI said that it found Teixeira through social media. The Times investigations team did it with the heavy lift from a journalist who’d never been published by the paper before.
