The beautiful iconic signature trees of Rome. They mesmerise me. Pini Ombrelli ! Umbrella Trees. Stone Pines. Pinus Pinea. The Internet tells me all about their origins, but it doesn’t tell me why all their foliage is all perched far from the ground, with a distinct line below which no leaves appear. Why ?
