During the 1970s, Jeju Island became a popular honeymoon spot for Korean couples. Many marriages at the time were arranged, and it wasn’t uncommon for hotels on the island to employ “professional icebreakers” who would provide evening entertainment to help newlyweds relax. Jeju – which is located off the south coast of South Korea – slowly became known as a center of sex education. ⁠

In 2002, graduates of Seoul’s Hongik University began creating sculptures for Love Land, a sex-themed outdoor sculpture park on the island that opened its doors in 2004. The park's website describes it as "a place where love oriented art and eroticism meet”, and inside you'll find sculptures of people in crazy sex positions, stone labias, and interactive exhibits about masturbating. ⁠
